Yukim "YukyDoodle" Nomoto

Yukim Nomoto was born of an unusual union between a Black-American educator and a Japanese Blues singer in the rural agricultural town of Kochi, Japan, in 1999.

Yukim enjoyed a (mostly) typical Japanese childhood, captivated by Ultraman, Godzilla, Studio Ghibli films, Doraemon, and interactive collecting games like Pokémon, Pengin no Mondai, Dinosaur King, and Mushi King. The common theme across almost all media that influenced Yukim’s childhood was the dramatic and colorful nature of these worlds, forming and revealing itself in YukyDoodle’s art today. It was during this period that the earliest glimpses of the YukyDoodle we know today were seen. On one cool summer morning, Yukim picked up a rock in the family driveway and etched a row of triangularly shaped dinosaurs—bipedal raptor-like creatures of spikes and jagged lines—on the side of the family SUV (a beautiful 1993 Toyota Hilux Surf 4Runner in wine red now and forever made more beautiful). Like the creation of the Paleolithic animal paintings in the ancient caves of Lascaux, this momentous event marked—the promise of rebellion against the tyranny of banning drawings on homework, for one—Yukim’s primal desire to draw, in the known YukyDoodle timeline.

Leaving all he knew in Japan and arriving in the United States of America, this major event forced adaptation and change for Yukim. And with change came new sources of inspiration. Cartoon Network became Yukim’s most impactful creative influence: a complete package of vivid, punchy art styles, bold characters, charming world-building, and impeccable music. Notable shows from the network are Samurai Jack, Codename: Kids Next Door, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Powerpuff Girls. Like a splash of Chemical X in the concoction of young Yukim’s churning imagination, the American cartoons set off a reaction of new artistic interest in the mixture of Western and Eastern art and storytelling. We trust that you can see its influence in his work, and we believe it is only growing stronger. Another major event in the YukyDoodle timeline occurred the night that Yukim watched Alien (1979) for the first time. Cradled in his mother’s arms as 11-year old Yukim held on tightly in their dim living room—imagining in slow motion the xenomorph bursting through the pitch-black windows to pounce onto its victims—a revelation came to him. He wanted to create work as immersive as this dark monster was for Yukim. Not long after discovering his creative purpose, Yukim discovered the concept art field and began his journey into art and concept design for the entertainment industry.

Now an adult, Yukim has sharpened his craft as a concept artist and illustrator while expanding his repertoire with graphic design, film, photography, music production, and writing. In early 2026, an opportunity was presented to Yukim to host his first-ever Artist Alley at Seattle's Emerald City Comic Con. After successfully hosting and selling his work for 4 days at ECCC, YukyDoodle was committed to GLOBAL EXPANSION with the launch of YukyDoodle.com to reach a wider audience.
